1: So the LORD sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story: "There were two men in a certain town. One was rich, and one was poor.
1 Kings 20:35
- Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet.
- Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him.
- Then the prophet turned to another man and said, "Strike me!" So he struck the prophet and wounded him.
- The prophet waited for the king beside the road, having placed a bandage over his eyes to disguise himself.
- As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him, "Sir, I was in the battle, and a man brought me a prisoner. He said, `Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy-five pounds of silver!'
Psalms 51:1
- Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.

- "Leave it to me," the king told her. "Go home, and I'll see to it that no one touches him."
- "Oh, thank you, my lord," she replied. "And I'll take the responsibility if you are criticized for helping me like this."

- When Jotham heard about this, he climbed to the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted, "Listen to me, people of Shechem! Listen to me if you want God to listen to you!
- Once upon a time the trees decided to elect a king. First they said to the olive tree, `Be our king!'

- "Well, stay here tonight," David told him, "and tomorrow you may return to the army." So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next.
- Then David invited him to dinner and got him drunk. But even then he couldn't get Uriah to go home to his wife. Again he slept at the palace entrance.
- So the next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and gave it to Uriah to deliver.
2 Samuel 24:11
- The next morning the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, who was David's seer. This was the message:
- "Go and say to David, `This is what the LORD says: I will give you three choices. Choose one of these punishments, and I will do it.'"
- So Gad came to David and asked him, "Will you choose three years of famine throughout the land, three months of fleeing from your enemies, or three days of severe plague throughout your land? Think this over and let me know what answer to give the LORD."
1 Kings 18:1
- After many months passed, in the third year of the drought, the LORD said to Elijah, "Go and present yourself to King Ahab. Tell him that I will soon send rain!"
Luke 15:11
- To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: "A man had two sons.
- The younger son told his father, 'I want my share of your estate now, instead of waiting until you die.' So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.
- "A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and took a trip to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money on wild living.

Isaiah 5:1

- Now this is what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will tear down its fences and let it be destroyed. I will break down its walls and let the animals trample it.

- But the angel of the LORD told Elijah, who was from Tishbe, "Go and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, `Why are you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king will get well? Is there no God in Israel?
Isaiah 57:17
- I was angry and punished these greedy people. I withdrew myself from them, but they went right on sinning.
- I have seen what they do, but I will heal them anyway! I will lead them and comfort those who mourn.
2 Samuel 7:1
- When the LORD had brought peace to the land and King David was settled in his palace,
- David summoned Nathan the prophet. "Look!" David said. "Here I am living in this beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out in a tent!"
- Nathan replied, "Go ahead and do what you have in mind, for the LORD is with you."
- But that same night the LORD said to Nathan,
- "Go and tell my servant David, `This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a temple to live in?
Luke 16:19
- Jesus said, "There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed and who lived each day in luxury.
- At his door lay a diseased beggar named Lazarus.
- As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man's table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.
- Finally, the beggar died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried,
- and his soul went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Lazarus in the far distance with Abraham.
